published is the trial of the 27th of April, but in preparing the papers for the Press the Governor had given instructions that extracts only of certain reports should be published and that the Government Order of the 26th April should not be published because some passages in the reports and matter conveyed to Captains Thomsett is unsolved controversial matter necessary for understanding the facts of the case, and the Government Order conveyed to Captains Thomsett the expression of Governor's opinion that the examination of Chinese Emigrants at the Harbour Master's Office was not as searching as it should be: which was intended as an admonition to Captains Thomsett.
That Government Order was sent to Captains Thomsett on the 26th April. On the following evening, an article appeared in the "China Mail" attacking the Government on the Glamis Case, and praising Captains Thomsett. Unfortunately the application Captains Thomsett now made seemed to have the object of trying the justice of the Governor's admonition.
